Mission Statement:

The purpose of the Sacred Heart Parish Pro-Life Ministry is to promote and uphold the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death through prayer and education, in the spirit of the Roman Catholic Church. Under the guidance of the Blessed Mother to whom we dedicate all our meetings, works and prayers, we act in response to the church's call to protect the most vulnerable members of society.

PRO-LIFE EVENTS AT SACRED HEART
Countdown for Life
On October 28, 2000, Sacred Heart Church hosted "Countdown for Life",
starting with the 8:30 a.m. Mass celebrated by Msgr. Ronald Tully, Pastor,
and followed by breakfast in the parish center. Featured speakers were:
Christine Flaherty of LIFENET, speaking on "The Gift of Life", Richard
Collier, Esq., President of the Legal Center for the Defense of Life,
speaking on "The Status of Abortion in America and the Judicial System", and
Father Michael Joly, Parochial Vicar of Sacred Heart Parish, Clifton, and
Chaplain of Paramus Catholic HS. Father Joly is a gifted musician who spoke
on "Living the Gospel of Life" and shared his talent with beautiful
inspirational music. Approximately 80 people attended receiving up-to-date
information on abortion issues along with encouragement to continue fighting
to end abortion through prayer and action

Youth Day of Prayer for the Unborn
Sacred Heart's annual Youth Day of Prayer for the Unborn was held on
Saturday, March 3. Approximately 30 young people from our parish
participated, praying for their unborn brothers and sisters and learning
about how precious every life is to God, our Creator. The retreat ended with
the 5:00 Mass celebrated by Msgr. Tully, where our youth made the following
pledge of commitment:

I thank God today for the gift of life,
and for the lives of my brothers and sisters.
I know I am responsible for the unborn
who cannot speak for themselves.
I know that the most serious tragedy of our day
is the tragedy of abortion.
Today I commit myself
never the be silent
never to be passive,
never to be forgetful of the unborn.
I will never stop defending life
until all my brothers and sisters are protected,
and our nation once again becomes
a nation of liberty and justice
not for some, but for all. Amen.

Scripture tell us that we are all "wonderfully made", "knit together in our
mother's womb" by God Himself (Ps. 139: 13-16). Let us all take this pledge
to pray and work for an end to abortion.

PROOF THAT GOD IS PRO-LIFE
"Thou shalt not kill." (Exodus 20:13)

"Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her
womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you. See, upon the palm
of my hand I have written your name. (Is. 49:15-16)

WISDOM FROM THE US CATHOLIC BISHOP

For Catholics, public virtue is as important as private virtue in building up
the common good. In the Catholic tradition, responsible citizenship is a
virtue; participation in the political process is a moral obligation. Every
believer is called to faithful citizenship, to become an informed, active and
responsible participant in the political process. (Administrative Board, US
Bishops, Faithful Citizenship, 1999, p. 9)

We believe that every human life is sacred from conception until natural
death; that people are more important than things; and that the measure of
every institution is whether or not it enhances the life and dignity of the
human person. (Ibid., p. 13)
Prayers by SHS 5th Graders for
Their Spiritually Adopted Babies".
Lord Jesus Christ,

Please let this child I’ve spiritually adopted survive in its mother’s womb. Hopefully his/her mother won’t abort the baby. I’ve learned that the baby in its first month developed its spinal cord, brain and nervous system. By the second month his/her fingerprints were developed. By the third month, the baby was 3 inches long. By the fourth month the baby’s heart could pump about six gallons of blood in one day. By the fifth month he or she was about one pound. By the sixth month he or she was 13 inches long.

Love,
Idelis

Dear God,

My baby is thirteen inches
Its mother can feel it hiccup
It can open and close its eye
It is 2 lbs
Its eyebrows appear
Its hair grows
It can hear
Its fingers can grasp stuff
It can suck its thumb
Its skin is thin and shiny
Its skeleton and ears have formed

-Erich

Dear God,

I understand that my baby is not an “it”, it is a person just like you and me. I also understand that this baby will always be loved and taken care of. She/He will be funny we hope! She also gets frightened with noises. The baby is an individual person just like you and me.

-Amanda

Dear God,

My baby is about
13 inches, I can feel the
baby hiccup, the
eyes open and
close and the baby
is 2 lbs and will
turn out to be a beautiful
baby. I pray for
the baby every day.
The skin is thin and
shiny. Each passing year
we witness medical
advances enabling professionals to
save younger and younger
premature infants.
